Why Summit Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Summit is a community of 4,892 residents experiencing steady expansion at a 1.20% annual growth rate. That steady growth translates into consistent demand for home improvements, from new driveways and patios to yard regrades and planting projects. With 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners face a climate that supports long construction seasons but still requires materials that handle both wet and dry conditions. In this environment, quality bulk materials — including various gravels, sands, soils, and mulches — matter because they influence drainage, compaction, erosion control, and plant success. Local geology also affects texture and color, so sourcing regionally ensures materials perform as expected for Summit projects and match nearby landscapes.Popular Projects in Summit This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Summit Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Summit.
Homeowners and contractors in Summit most commonly order gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, base layers, grading, and landscaping. These materials are used as base material, drainage layers, top dressing, and for decorative beds. Local availability and appearance vary due to regional sourcing, so check product descriptions and photos before ordering.
Start by defining the job: load-bearing driveways need stable, well-graded base material, while garden beds and drainage trenches need more porous materials. Consider drainage, expected vehicle traffic, slope, and desired look; local climate and soil type in Summit also affect performance. Use a material calculator or our aggregate quiz and contact our team if you need help matching a material to your project.
Freeze/thaw cycles can cause fine, water-retaining materials to heave and shift, so choose well-draining, angular materials for load-bearing areas and slopes. Schedule major installations for late spring through early fall when ground is stable and not frozen. If working in shoulder seasons, plan for extra compaction and monitor drainage to reduce frost-related movement.
Standard delivery in the region is typically 2+ business days, with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST (additional fee may apply). Deliveries are usually made by tri-axle dump trucks; a single truck commonly carries roughly 10 to 14 tons depending on material and local limits. Minimum order size is generally 3 tons; check the checkout calendar for available dates and any access restrictions.
Permits may be required if a delivery will block a public street, require a commercial vehicle to park on the road, or involve curb cuts or significant sidewalk obstruction. Some neighborhoods or HOAs may have rules about delivery times, parking, or material storage. Check with Summit town officials or your HOA before ordering, and tell our team about access constraints so we can coordinate with the hauler.
On slopes and clay soils, choose angular, well-graded base materials that compact well and shed water rather than hold it. A layered approach—geotextile fabric, compactable base, and a top layer that promotes drainage—reduces movement and erosion. Combining good drainage, proper grading, and compaction is usually more important than one specific material choice.
Late spring through early fall is the most reliable window for deliveries and installation because the ground is less likely to be frozen or waterlogged. Avoid scheduling heavy deliveries during spring thaw or after heavy rain when yards can rut and materials will be harder to compact. If you must work in cooler months, plan for extra time, possible access limitations, and additional compaction.
Many haulers offer optional services such as tailgate spreading, basic spreading assistance, compaction, or hauling away excess material, but these vary by provider and are often offered for an extra fee. Tailgate spreading is performed at the driver’s discretion and is not guaranteed. Ask about available services at checkout and include any special instructions in the order notes.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area, calculate the cubic yards (length x width x depth in feet divided by 27), and then convert cubic yards to tons if needed—tonnage varies by material density. Add 5-10% extra for compaction, settling, and waste, and use Hello Gravel’s material calculator or talk to our team for help with conversions. Ordering a bit more than calculated helps avoid shortfalls during installation.
Pricing depends on material type, quantity, delivery distance, season, and site access. Because local geology affects material availability, prices can vary across West Wisconsin; getting an online quote for your zip code is the fastest way to see current rates. For specific projects, request a quote and compare delivery options, additional service fees, and any access or permitting costs before placing your order.

We cannot get out of the truck and manually spread it. However, depending on the location, safety, and comfortability of the driver – we may be able to tailgate spread your material. This involves pulling the truck forward as material is being dumped to make it easier for you to distribute material after delivery.
The minimum order size is 3 tons.
