Why River Hills Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
River Hills is a tight-knit community with a city population: 1,498, yet it benefits from being part of a larger metro area population: 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate: 1.20% annually means homeowners are seeing gradual but consistent demand for new builds, renovations, and outdoor upgrades rather than boom-and-bust swings. In this setting, materials that perform reliably over time matter: well-graded base aggregates, clean fill dirt, consistent topsoil mixes, and durable surfacing products support longer-lasting driveways, patios, and planting areas. The local climate — hardiness zone 8b with 228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall: 34.25 inches — favors projects that balance drainage with water retention, such as permeable paving, rain gardens, and erosion-resistant slopes. Homeowners in River Hills are increasingly choosing materials that reduce maintenance, improve drainage, and support plant health, which makes sourcing quality bulk materials a practical, long-term investment.Popular Projects in River Hills This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - River Hills Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in River Hills.
Homeowners in River Hills often order a mix of gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, walkways, garden beds, grading, and drainage improvements. These materials are versatile and chosen based on project needs like compaction, drainage, or appearance. If you are unsure which group fits your project, use our material quiz or contact our sales team for guidance.
Choose materials based on load, drainage, and finish: stable, angular aggregates for driveways that get vehicle traffic; finer materials for leveling and drainage layers. Consider local freeze-thaw cycles and drainage needs when selecting materials so they hold up through Wisconsin winters. If you need help, our team can recommend options based on your project's use and slope.
Freeze-thaw cycles can cause settling, frost heave, and movement if the wrong material is used or if compaction and drainage are inadequate. Use well-draining aggregates in wet areas, proper base layers under surfaces, and avoid materials that retain excess moisture where freeze-thaw is a risk. Proper site prep, compaction, and grading are as important as material choice for long-term performance.
Spring through early fall is the busiest season for landscaping and driveway projects in West Wisconsin, which can increase lead times and demand for trucks and materials. Plan and order at least a few weeks in advance for large jobs, and consider next-day delivery only for smaller orders placed before noon CST. Off-season deliveries are often easier to schedule but weather can affect access and timing.
Standard delivery typically requires 2+ business days and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks (often tri-axle) and you can choose a preferred date in checkout, but exact arrival windows are not guaranteed. Request tailgate spreading at checkout; drivers may do it at their discretion depending on site conditions.
Our minimum order is generally 3 tons, which covers most small residential needs. Materials are delivered by local haulers using dump trucks and regional sourcing means color and texture can vary by supplier. Drivers will place material where feasible but may not enter narrow driveways or obstructed yards, so provide clear delivery instructions at checkout.
Estimate by measuring the area (length x width x depth) and converting cubic feet to cubic yards or tons; our online material calculator can do this for you. For common projects like a 1-inch top dressing or a 4-inch base, the calculator will recommend quantities for gravel, sand, dirt, and stone. When in doubt, order a little extra for grading and compaction losses and consult our team for project-specific guidance.
Many River Hills properties may be subject to HOA guidelines or municipal codes that govern driveway materials, curb cuts, and visible finishes. Check with your HOA and River Hills municipal offices before ordering to confirm allowed materials, colors, and required permits. If you need documentation for approvals, we can help with typical material descriptions to share with your association.
Budget for grading, excavation, compaction, and erosion control as needed; these tasks often require equipment and labor that add to project cost. Costs vary by scope, but homeowners should plan for prepping the subgrade, installing edging or geotextile, and compacting base layers for best results. You can schedule delivery once site prep is done to avoid rehandling material.
For sloped lots, choose materials that promote drainage and resist washout—well-graded aggregates and coarse stone are often used for stabilization, while finer materials are used behind erosion-control fabric or in silt fences. Combine proper grading, drainage features (like swales), and vegetation to reduce erosion risk. Local soil and slope steepness influence the best choice, so consider a short consultation for steep or sensitive sites.
Choose materials that compact well and allow for effective snow removal; very loose or fine materials can scatter during plowing, while stable aggregates hold up better under repeated clearing. Consider how salt and deicing chemicals used in winter will interact with materials and nearby plantings. If you expect frequent plowing, discuss a durable surface option and proper base prep to minimize disturbance.
