Why Westby Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
With a city population of 40,000, Westby sits in a growing regional market—its metro area population of 2.5+ million and a growth rate of 1.20% annually signal steady demand for new housing, driveways, patios, and landscape upgrades. That steady growth translates into predictable construction and landscaping activity: more homeowners tackling yard remodels, contractors sourcing bulk materials for new builds, and greater demand for maintenance materials as neighborhoods mature. Westby's climate—228 sunny days per year, an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, and classification in hardiness zone 8b—creates a need for materials that perform across dry and wet seasons. Homeowners prioritize reliable drainage aggregates, stable base materials for paved surfaces, erosion-resistant soils, and sun-resistant surface products. Choosing quality, regionally sourced bulk materials reduces callbacks and helps projects withstand local conditions while matching the look and texture of Westby landscapes.Popular Projects in Westby This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Westby Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Westby.
Homeowners frequently order gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, base layers, drainage, and planting beds. These materials are used for structural bases, top layers, leveling, and improving drainage, so pick a product based on function (load-bearing vs. decorative) rather than appearance alone. Regional sourcing means color and texture may vary from online photos, so include any color preference in your order notes.
Freeze–thaw cycles can cause frost heave and surface settling if materials do not drain or compact well. Choose well-draining, appropriately sized aggregates for base and surface layers, ensure good grade and drainage away from structures, and compact layers properly to reduce movement. Expect seasonal maintenance in spring as settling and minor washouts are common after thaw.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide on the target depth, then convert to cubic yards or tons using a simple calculator. Allow an extra 5–10% for compaction, grading, and waste, and consult Hello Gravel's material calculator or our team for a tailored estimate. Contractors often ask for project photos and site dimensions to refine quantities before ordering.
Spring through fall offers the best availability and flexibility for delivery and spreading, while winter deliveries can be limited due to weather and site access. Suppliers may offer more competitive pricing and faster lead times in shoulder seasons, but heavy rain or thaw periods can affect site conditions. Use the checkout calendar to pick a preferred delivery date and consider next-day delivery for urgent needs when available.
Standard delivery typically requires 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Hello Gravel delivers via local contracted dump truck fleets (commonly tri-axle) with a minimum order of 3 tons; delivery fees and free-delivery promotions vary by area. You will receive a delivery confirmation and can add order notes for placement and access instructions.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout but it is not guaranteed. The driver will assess safety and site access upon arrival and decide whether spreading can be done. For full spreading or precise finish work, plan to hire a landscaper or contractor.
Permit requirements vary by city and county, so check with Westby's local building department and your county office before starting work. Permits are commonly required for new driveways, curb cuts, work in the public right-of-way, or major drainage changes. If your project affects a state road or highway, also contact the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for guidance.
Contractors typically calculate excavation volumes separately and arrange haul-off or on-site reuse, accounting for extra material from over-excavation and unsuitable soils. When ordering new materials, include allowance for compaction and loss, and discuss disposal options with your contractor or Hello Gravel if you need additional services. Local landfill fees and hauling distance can affect overall project cost and scheduling.
Many sites in the region have clay or silty soils that hold water and can cause poor drainage, so selecting well-draining aggregates for base layers is important. On sloped sites, erosion control, proper grading, and the use of geotextile fabric or retaining features can help stabilize materials. Always assess site-specific drainage and water flow before choosing material depth and type.
For rural driveways and high-traffic areas choose durable, well-draining aggregates that support vehicle loads and shed water. For landscaping and beds focus on appearance, plant needs, and permeability; consider local look and seasonal maintenance needs. When in doubt, use the aggregate quiz or contact Hello Gravel's sales team for guidance based on your site and intended use.
Suppliers usually quote by the ton or by the cubic yard, and costs vary based on material type, regional availability, haul distance, and seasonal demand. Delivery fees, minimum order sizes, and any special placement services (like tailgate spreading) can change the final price. Hello Gravel provides upfront pricing and delivery options during checkout so you can compare choices for your project.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible; modifications are easiest before the order is dispatched and we will do our best to accommodate changes.
