Why Central Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Central has a population of 409 and is growing steadily at a rate of 2.00% annually. With a climate that averages 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall and sitting in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners and local builders face both strong drying conditions and periods of seasonal runoff. That combination creates steady demand for reliable earthwork materials: even small residential lots need consistent fill for proper grading, foundation backfill, raised beds, and utility trenches. Quality fill-dirt helps reduce future settling and erosion, provides a stable base for pavers and slabs, and lowers maintenance over time. Being part of a metro area with a population of 2.6+ million further drives renovation and new-build activity, making locally sourced, clean fill-dirt a common requirement for Central projects.Popular Projects in Central This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Central fill-dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill-dirt delivery in Central.
In Central (West Arizona), delivered fill-dirt retail prices usually vary by supplier, haul distance, and whether the material is screened. Expect a broad range of roughly $12 to $40 per ton (or about $15 to $50 per cubic yard) as a starting point; final pricing depends on exact location and load size. Many local suppliers do offer residential delivery, and Hello Gravel can connect you to nearby haulers and show delivery options for your zip code.
A single dump truck (tri-axle) commonly carries about 10 to 12 cubic yards of loose fill dirt, which is roughly 13 to 16 tons depending on moisture and composition. Delivered residential prices for a typical truckload in Central can range from about $300 to $1,200, driven by truck size, distance, gate access, placement requests, and any fees for residential drops.
Use cubic yards = area * depth(in) / 324. For 1,000 sq ft that equals about 6.2 yd3 (≈8.0 tons) at 2 inches, 12.3 yd3 (≈16.0 tons) at 4 inches, and 18.5 yd3 (≈24.1 tons) at 6 inches, assuming an average conversion of ~1.3 tons per cubic yard. Round up to allow for compaction and settlement and note Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons.
A 10 yd3 truck of fill dirt will cover roughly 1,620 sq ft at 2 inches, 810 sq ft at 4 inches, and 540 sq ft at 6 inches. A 12 yd3 truck covers about 1,944 sq ft at 2 inches, 972 sq ft at 4 inches, and 648 sq ft at 6 inches. Local compaction and settlement in West Arizona conditions can reduce these coverage figures, so plan a small safety margin.
Fill dirt is a good, low-cost bulk material for building up or leveling where plant growth is not required; it compacts well for a stable subgrade. For lawns, gardens, or planting beds you should cap fill dirt with several inches of screened topsoil because fill dirt lacks organic matter. For driveways, use fill dirt only as a compacted subgrade—finish with a proper gravel or crushed-rock base for drainage and long-term durability.
Material-only, fill dirt is typically the least expensive per ton, followed by gravel, with screened topsoil the most costly. However, when you factor in delivery, compaction, and project performance (for example, a driveway that needs gravel surfacing), the cheapest-looking option can cost more long term. Evaluate the end use: for plantings buy topsoil, for structural fills use compacted fill dirt with appropriate surfacing to get best value.
Some local suppliers and contractors near Central may offer spreading and compaction as an add-on, but it varies widely and is often a separate charge. Hello Gravel allows you to request tailgate spreading at checkout, though drivers will assess safety and ability on arrival and no spreading is guaranteed. For mechanical compaction (rollers, plate compactors), plan to hire a local contractor or ask your supplier if they can arrange compaction services—these are commonly arranged but not always included.
A 200 ft driveway at 12 ft wide is about 2,400 sq ft. A 4-inch compacted fill-dirt base would require roughly 30 yd3 (about 39 tons). Expect material and delivery for the fill-dirt base to range roughly $600 to $1,500, compaction and labor $400 to $1,200, and an additional gravel topcoat (materials and delivery) $700 to $2,000, so a total installed range near $1,700 to $4,700 depending on local rates and access. Get written quotes for materials, compaction, and surfacing because terrain, access, and haul distance in West Arizona drive costs.
If you are using fill dirt as a structural subgrade or to support pavement, compaction is usually required to prevent settlement. Many suppliers will not guarantee compaction unless they contract and perform compaction as a separate service; drivers generally do not provide compaction. Ask your Hello Gravel order notes or supplier contact about compaction options and hire a local contractor if you need certified compaction or compaction guarantees.
Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons, which is a common small-order threshold for delivered bulk materials. Suppliers price fill dirt by ton, by cubic yard, or by dump-truck load; small jobs are often priced per ton while larger loads may be quoted per truck or per cubic yard with delivery included. Exact minimums and unit pricing vary by supplier and distance, so check availability and price for your specific zip code on the Hello Gravel site or contact sales for a tailored quote.
