Why Dietz Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Dietz is a growing community of 20,000 residents in the Arizona Region, expanding at about 2.17% annually. The local climate—228 sunny days a year, a hardiness zone of 8b, and 33.20 inches of annual rainfall—creates a mix of intense sun and periodic heavy rain that shapes landscaping and site work. That steady growth and ongoing residential construction drive demand for dependable bulk materials: homeowners and contractors need fill-dirt for grading, foundation backfill, driveway subbases, and raised planting areas. Choosing quality fill-dirt up front reduces rework, improves drainage during seasonal storms, and helps new plantings and hardscapes perform in Dietz’s hot, sunny summers and wetter transition seasons.Popular Projects in Dietz This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Dietz Fill Dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill dirt delivery in Dietz.
Delivered fill-dirt prices in the Dietz area commonly vary based on supply, distance, and material quality; expect a broad range rather than a single fixed price. As a rough guideline, many customers see delivered prices that fall between about $10 and $40 per ton, with lower costs for local bulk truckloads and higher costs for small deliveries or long hauls. Ask Hello Gravel for an exact quote—we show local supplier pricing and delivery fees for your zip code.
Suppliers that serve the Arizona Region often include local quarries and aggregate yards; exact names depend on your zip code and regional sourcing. Typical minimums through Hello Gravel start at our platform minimum of 3 tons, while many contractors order a full truck (10 to 20+ tons); lead times commonly range from 1 to 7 business days depending on stock and trucking availability, with a next-day option if ordered before noon CST for an added fee. Use our site to check which local suppliers are available for your address and their specific lead times.
Arizona’s high heat and low rainfall cause fill-dirt to dry out and shrink more than in wetter climates, which can increase the chance of settlement and dust. Proper moisture conditioning and mechanical compaction during placement reduce long-term settlement, and rare heavy storms can cause erosion on loose fills unless protected with grading, mulch, or temporary seeding. Tell your supplier about local site conditions so they can recommend compaction, moisture levels, or stabilizers suited to Dietz.
Local building departments typically require clean, non-organic fill with compaction testing and a specified percent of maximum dry density (commonly 90% to 95% of Modified or Standard Proctor), but exact values vary by project and county. Inspectors also look for minimal organic material, no large debris or roots, and gradation suitable for the intended use; engineered fill with lab reports may be required under structural elements. Always confirm specific compaction and gradation requirements with La Paz County building officials or your project engineer before ordering fill-dirt.
Calculate volume first: 1,000 sq ft x (4 inches / 12) = 333.3 cubic feet, which is about 12.35 cubic yards. Fill-dirt weight varies with moisture and density, but a common rule of thumb is 1.2 to 1.4 tons per cubic yard, so for Dietz expect roughly 15 to 17 tons (about 12.35 cu yd x 1.3 tons/cu yd = ~16 tons). Use Hello Gravel’s calculator or contact our team with your project details for a precise estimate that accounts for compaction and local material density.
Fill-dirt is a cost-effective choice for general mass fills and grading, but it does not drain or compact as consistently as crushed rock or engineered fill. For driveways, drainage layers, and steep slopes in the sandy Arizona Region, crushed rock or engineered fill often performs better because it provides more stable compaction and improved runoff control. If your project affects foundations, driveways, or positive drainage, consider engineered fill or a blended base and check with an engineer or contractor to pick the right material for Dietz site conditions.
Suppliers commonly offer blended fills with additional fines or road-base material to improve compaction and stability, and some can provide lime or cement stabilization for structural applications. Other options include moisture conditioning before compaction and combining fill with geotextile fabric to reduce settlement and erosion on sandy slopes. Confirm any additives with your engineer or local building department and note stabilization requests in your Hello Gravel order notes.
Most settlement happens within the first few months after placement, but secondary settlement can continue for up to a year depending on fill depth, compaction, and underlying soils. Proper compaction and staged placement reduce the need for follow-up deliveries, but small top-ups are sometimes needed after heavy rain events or natural settling, especially on deeper fills. Plan for a final grade check several months after placement and order extra material if you want a buffer for future top-ups.
Yes—grading, drainage, and large land disturbance often trigger permits or plan reviews in La Paz County or other local jurisdictions that serve Dietz, and specific rules vary by parcel and project scope. Check with La Paz County Building and Planning or your local authority before starting work, and include permit needs in your project timeline to avoid delays. Hello Gravel can help with material delivery timing, but we do not handle permitting.
Delivery fees depend on supplier distance, road access, and order size; Hello Gravel’s booking will show any delivery fee for your address and our minimum order is 3 tons. Standard delivery is by dump truck (typically tri-axle) and drivers will usually dump material in a single pile; tailgate spreading can be requested at checkout but is performed at the driver’s discretion and not guaranteed. For precise placement or small jobs, arrange bobcat or hand-spreading onsite or request a placement service through a local contractor and note any special access instructions in your order notes.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
