Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why Leisure World Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Leisure World is a growing community of 9,000 residents within the broader Arizona Region metro area of 2.5+ million. With an annual growth rate of 2.17%, local demand for landscaping and light construction is steady as homeowners update driveways, install low-water yards, and address drainage and erosion around sloped lots. Leisure World’s climate (228 sunny days per year, 33.20 inches of annual rainfall, hardiness zone 8b) means materials must tolerate strong sun, occasional heavy rains, and local soil conditions that can range from sandy to compacted. Homeowners look for reliable aggregates that provide stable bases for pavers and driveways, support effective drainage, and reduce maintenance—making gravel a go-to choice for many projects in this environment.Popular Projects in Leisure World This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Leisure World gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Leisure World.
Many residents use gravel for low-maintenance, xeriscape front yards in Leisure World, but you must check your HOA rules before ordering. HOA guidelines often dictate color, size, and edging requirements, and some properties require approval for permanent groundcover changes. Contact your HOA or include approval notes in your order to avoid extra removal or fines.
Yes—gravel is popular in 55+ communities because it reduces mowing and watering compared with grass, and can create tidy paths and seating areas. Choose finer materials like decomposed granite for walking surfaces to lower trip risk, and use edging to keep rock from migrating into walkways. Keep in mind gravel can get hot in Arizona sun and needs occasional maintenance.
HOA rules commonly regulate appearance, including permitted rock sizes, colors, and whether weed fabric or edging is required. Because rules vary by section, always check your specific Leisure World design guidelines or submit photos and specs to your HOA before placing an order. If in doubt, order a small sample first or note HOA approval requirements in your Hello Gravel order notes.
Yes—Leisure World’s gated roads, narrow drives, or speed bumps can limit where a tri-axle dump truck can safely unload. Provide gate codes, full access details, and preferred drop locations at checkout, and be prepared for the supplier to refuse on-site dumping if access is unsafe. Remember Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum order and drivers decide on tailgate spreading at arrival.
Renters should get landlord or HOA permission before installing permanent gravel since many leases prohibit altering common-area landscaping or front-yard treatments. Temporary gravel placement may be allowed, but landlords are generally responsible for permanent changes and for complying with HOA rules. If you are a landlord, confirm restrictions before purchasing to avoid rework.
Gravel can retain heat, making patios and walkways hotter in summer, and loose rock can create trip hazards for older adults if not properly graded or edged. Wind and foot traffic can cause migration and thin spots that require occasional topping up, and weeds can still grow through without good preparation. Plan for edging, proper depth, and periodic maintenance to reduce these issues.
Decomposed granite and crushed granite are popular for paths and patios because they compact well and look natural; pea gravel and small river rock are often used for decorative beds. Choose lighter colors to reflect heat and lower surface temperatures, and expect local stone color to vary—regional sourcing influences texture and hue. Ask for local samples or photos to match HOA requirements.
A quick rule: one cubic yard of gravel weighs roughly 1.3 tons, so plan orders around that conversion and Hello Gravel’s 3-ton minimum. Use the formula: cubic yards = (area in square feet * depth in inches) / 324 to estimate volume, then multiply by 1.3 to get tons. If you prefer, use Hello Gravel’s material calculator or contact our team for a precise estimate.
Natural stone can lighten or develop surface dust from sun, wind, and local soil, and metal-bearing stones may oxidize slightly, changing hue over months to years. Regional sourcing means your delivered material may look different from photos, so expect variation and ask for a local sample if color is critical for HOA approval. Regular rinsing or brushing can help preserve appearance.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but it is not guaranteed and depends on site access and safety. Request spreading at checkout and note any access constraints; the driver will assess upon arrival and decide whether spreading is safe and feasible. If spreading is required, consider hiring a local landscaper for a guaranteed finish.
Clear vegetation, mark visible utilities, create a clear dump spot, and provide gate codes or parking instructions before delivery. Make sure the drop location is accessible for a tri-axle truck and that neighbors and HOA rules allow street or driveway dumping. Add order notes for any special instructions and confirm next-day or standard delivery timelines when booking.
Install a permeable weed barrier and lay gravel at the recommended depth to reduce weed growth, but know that no fabric stops all weeds permanently. Schedule occasional raking, spot weeding, and a top-up every few years to keep coverage even, and consider edging to prevent rock migration. If you need help deciding on fabric or depth, Hello Gravel’s team can advise based on your project.
