Why Rimrock Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Rimrock is a growing community of 4,050 residents positioned in a climate that supports steady building and landscaping activity. With a growth rate of 2.00% annually and a weather profile that includes 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners and small contractors in Rimrock frequently need dependable materials for grading, foundations, and yard projects. That steady growth and year-round outdoor use drive demand for reliable aggregates: clean, low-organic fill-dirt helps prevent settling, supports new pads and driveways, and improves drainage where local soils and seasonal rains can cause issues if backfill is inconsistent or poorly compacted.Popular Projects in Rimrock This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Rimrock fill-dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill-dirt delivery in Rimrock.
Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum order. Delivery is often free in nearby areas, but Rimrock's more rural location may incur a delivery fee depending on supplier distance and truck availability; we show delivery costs at checkout. For faster service, next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee.
For general fill and grading in Rimrock, a well-graded fill-dirt with a mix of fines and small particles performs best because it compacts and resists wind erosion. For driveway base or structural pads, consider starting with engineered road base or crusher-run over compacted fill-dirt; fill-dirt alone is good for bulk elevation but not ideal as the wearing surface. Regional materials vary, so mention your project in the Order Notes and our team will recommend a local gradation.
Use these estimates for 1,000 sq ft: 2" (0.17 ft) = about 6.2 cubic yards (≈ 8.5 to 9.0 tons), 3" (0.25 ft) = about 9.3 cubic yards (≈ 12.5 to 13.5 tons), 6" (0.5 ft) = about 18.5 cubic yards (≈ 25 to 27 tons). Actual tons vary with moisture and material density; ask our team for a site-specific estimate if your soil is very rocky or sandy, as is common in West Arizona.
For non-structural grade build-up like yard or low-traffic areas, aim for firm, even compaction with a plate compactor or small roller and compact lifts of 4 to 6 inches. For driveways, foundations, or engineered fills, use heavier compaction equipment and target industry-standard compaction levels specified by your engineer (often 90%+ of Standard Proctor); hire a contractor or geotechnical report if required by your project. Always compact in thin lifts to reduce future settlement.
Fill-dirt by itself is not an erosion-control product on steep slopes; loose fines can wash during monsoon downpours common in Arizona. Use fill-dirt to build or grade gentle benches, but pair it with erosion controls such as terracing, retaining walls, mulch, rock riprap, or erosion control fabric for steeper slopes. A local landscaper or civil contractor can recommend the right combination for Rimrock's rocky, arid terrain.
Fill-dirt is typically the least expensive option and is best used for bulk elevation and backfill. Crusher run or road base is engineered for compaction and drainage and is a better long-term wearing surface for driveways and approaches. Clean fill (without fines) drains well but does not compact the same as road base; many Rimrock homeowners use fill-dirt for raising grades then cap with road base for durability.
Hello Gravel works with local suppliers and contracted haulers that serve Rimrock and surrounding Yavapai County; availability can vary by zip code. Our platform lists delivery options and whether drivers may perform tailgate spreading at checkout, but spreading is at the driver's discretion and not guaranteed. If you need spreading, request it in the Order Notes and call our sales team to confirm before delivery.
Permit requirements for structural fills, foundations, and septic systems are set by Yavapai County and can require engineered fill, compaction testing, or specific material specs. Rimrock is unincorporated, so check with the Yavapai County Building Department or your project engineer before ordering. If your permit or engineer calls out a material spec, tell our team so we can match a local supplier's product.
If fill-dirt is used alone as a driveway surface, expect more frequent maintenance: regrading and topping may be needed yearly after storms. Proper compaction and adding a road base or gravel wearing layer can extend service life to many years with only periodic grading. For yard areas, well-compacted fill-dirt stabilized with vegetation or groundcover will settle less and require minimal upkeep.
Rimrock's climate has limited freeze/thaw stress compared with colder regions, but temperature swings and summer monsoon storms can cause settling and erosion if fills are not compacted and drained properly. Use well-compacted, non-organic fill-dirt, install good drainage away from structures, and cap exposed fills with rock, vegetation, or road base to resist monsoon runoff. For foundation or septic work, follow engineer or county guidance on material and compaction to reduce moisture-related movement.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
