Why Toltec Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Toltec has a city population of 47,972 and sits within a metro area of 2.6+ million that is growing at about 2.00% annually. The local climate — 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b — supports year-round outdoor work but also creates specific site-preparation needs: good drainage, stable grades, and soil that compacts predictably under both sun and occasional heavy rains. With steady growth and ongoing residential projects, homeowners in Toltec frequently need reliable base material for grading, lawn installation, driveway sub-bases, and foundation backfill. Quality fill-dirt helps prevent uneven settling, improves drainage away from structures, and creates a stable platform for patios, pavers, and landscaping beds.Popular Projects in Toltec This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Toltec fill-dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill-dirt delivery in Toltec.
Typical delivered prices for fill-dirt in Toltec generally fall in the range of $12 to $30 per ton, depending on supplier, distance from the source, and order size. Prices can vary seasonally and with road access or site conditions, so request a quote through Hello Gravel or check your zip code for the most accurate, up-to-date pricing.
Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons, but common local truckloads are tri-axle deliveries that carry about 10 to 14 tons of fill-dirt. Many suppliers offer lower per-ton pricing for full truckloads or orders above about 20 tons; ask for volume pricing when you request a quote to see specific bulk discount tiers.
To raise 1,000 sq ft by 6 inches you need about 18.5 cubic yards, which translates to roughly 22 to 26 tons of fill-dirt depending on density (about 1.2 to 1.4 tons per cubic yard). Compaction and site conditions can reduce loose volume by 10% to 30%, so plan to order an extra 10% to 25% to allow for compaction and settling, or ask Hello Gravel to help calculate an exact amount for your specific site.
Fill-dirt is fine for raising grade, filling low spots, and backfill, but it is not usually a good final surface for driveways or structural building pads unless it is clean of organics, properly compacted, and specified by an engineer. In Toltec’s arid, sandy conditions you get good drainage but may have lower load-bearing capacity; for driveways and pads, consider compacted road base or engineered fill rather than plain fill-dirt.
Permit requirements vary by city and county; Toltec homeowners should check with the Toltec city building or planning department and the county for rules on grading, driveways, and changes to drainage. In general, permits are more likely if you alter site drainage, move large volumes of material, or build pads that affect setbacks, so contact local authorities before starting larger projects.
Fill-dirt typically contains fine-grained soil with occasional rock fragments and low amounts of crushed stone; particle sizes are mostly silt, sand, and small gravels. Road base is a different product: it contains a controlled mix of crushed rock and fines designed to compact tightly for load-bearing surfaces, so for driveways or pads choose road base or a specified engineered granular fill rather than standard fill-dirt.
A driveway surfaced purely with fill-dirt will need frequent maintenance, such as regrading and adding material after storms or vehicle use, and is likely to degrade within months to a few years under regular car traffic. For longer life with less upkeep in Toltec’s conditions, finish with a compacted road base or crushed stone and schedule periodic regrading or top-up material every few years.
Fill-dirt is best for raising grade and backfill but not for finished, load-bearing drive surfaces. Road base and crushed rock are the better choices for driveways because they compact and hold up under traffic; decomposed granite can work for light-use, aesthetic paths when stabilized but may not be durable for frequent vehicle use in sandy soils. Choose the material based on traffic, drainage needs, and whether you can compact and maintain the surface.
Hello Gravel can arrange delivery and you can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but spreading is performed at the driver’s discretion and is not guaranteed. Compaction is typically not included with standard deliveries, though some local suppliers or contractors may offer turnkey spreading and compacting for an additional fee; request this service in your quote or call our team to see which partners are available for full-service jobs.
Moisture and compaction have a big impact on settling: properly compacted fill placed in lifts will settle much less, while loose or dry fill in Toltec’s arid climate may appear stable then settle when wetted or driven over. Irrigation, landscaping, and seasonal rains can cause localized settling or erosion, so compact fill in 6-8 inch lifts, pre-wet when appropriate, and order 10% to 25% extra material to allow for future adjustments.
