Frequently Asked Questions - Dallas stone Delivery

Everything you need to know about stone delivery in Dallas.

What are typical prices per ton for crushed stone delivered to Dallas, WI?

In West Wisconsin around Dallas, crushed stone retail typically runs about $20 to $40 per ton for pickup. With delivery to a rural address in Dallas, WI, total delivered prices commonly land in the $40 to $90 per ton range depending on stone type, distance, and truck minimums. Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum and offers standard delivery in 2+ business days or next-day delivery (orders before noon CST) for an extra fee.

Which stone types are commonly available to buyers in the Dallas, WI area?

Local suppliers near Dallas most commonly offer crushed limestone, crushed dolomite, #57 crushed stone, #2 crushed stone (larger base rock), and screened bank-run or pit-run stone. Availability reflects regional quarries, so color and angularity vary; Hello Gravel can show the nearby supplier options for your zip code when you order.

How does Dallas, WI’s freeze-thaw climate affect stone driveways and gravel areas?

Freeze-thaw cycles in West Wisconsin can cause frost heave and rutting if the base or drainage is poor. Using a well-compacted, free-draining stone base, installing proper slope and drainage, and keeping a top wearing layer of angular crushed stone will reduce freeze-thaw damage and make maintenance easier.

How many tons of stone will I need for a standard 1-car or 2-car driveway in Dallas, WI?

For a typical driveway surface with a 6" compacted stone depth, expect about 5 to 8 tons for a 1-car driveway (roughly 10 ft x 20 ft) and about 10 to 16 tons for a 2-car driveway (roughly 20 ft x 20 ft). If you want a thicker base (8" or more) or a longer rural driveway, increase those estimates by 25% to 50%; Hello Gravel’s calculator can convert your exact dimensions to tons.

Do Dallas-area municipalities or HOAs require permits for installing or resurfacing a stone driveway?

Permit requirements vary by township and HOA around Dallas, WI; many rural townships do not require a permit for private driveways, but municipal rules and HOA covenants can have regulations for setbacks, curb cuts, or driveway surfacing. Check with Dallas town or county zoning, and review any HOA guidelines before starting work to avoid rework.

Which stone sizes are best for driveways, drainage trenches, and garden paths in West Wisconsin?

For driveways use a layered approach: larger crushed stone (#2 or 1-1/2" to 3") for the base and 3/4" to #57 crushed stone for the top wearing surface. For drainage trenches use clean 3/4" to 1-1/2" stone around drain tile. For garden paths choose finer crushed stone such as 3/8" or screened 1/4" stone or compactable #57 depending on desired firmness and appearance.

What are typical labor and installation cost ranges for a stone driveway in Dallas, WI?

Labor and installation for a standard gravel driveway in the Dallas area commonly range from about $800 to $2,500 for a single-car driveway and $1,500 to $5,000 for a two-car driveway, depending on grading, excavation, base material, compaction, and access. Site factors such as clay subgrade, length, drive entry work, and hauling distance can move costs above or below these ranges.

Which local suppliers deliver bulk stone to Dallas, WI and are there order minimums or delivery zone limits?

Hello Gravel connects you to nearby quarries and aggregate suppliers that deliver to Dallas; common local materials suppliers include regional stone yards and pit operators in west Wisconsin. Most suppliers respect a 3-ton minimum for delivery through Hello Gravel, and delivery zone limits or extra fees may apply for long drives or remote locations; check your zip code on our site or contact our team for specific supplier options.

How does crushed stone compare to asphalt or concrete for rural driveways in Dallas, WI?

Crushed stone is less expensive upfront than asphalt or concrete, provides better drainage, and is easier to repair, but it requires periodic grading and topping and typically has shorter lifespan without maintenance. Asphalt and concrete have higher initial costs and lower routine maintenance but can crack with freeze-thaw and may require more expensive repairs in Dallas’ climate; choice depends on budget, desired maintenance level, and appearance.

What base and subgrade steps are recommended for laying stone over clay soils common in Dallas, WI?

Over clay subgrades, remove soft organic topsoil, install geotextile fabric, place and compact a 4" to 6" or thicker base layer of larger crushed stone (#2 or similar) that promotes drainage, then add a 3" to 4" wearing course of #57 or 3/4" crushed stone and compact. Provide positive slope for surface drainage, install edge restraints where possible, and consider underdrains or additional depth if the site is consistently wet or prone to frost heave.
