Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why North Sight Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
North Sight is a growing community with a city population of 35,000 and strong ties to a broader metro area population of 2.5+ million. With an annual growth rate of 2.17%, homeowners and contractors in the area are frequently updating driveways, patios, and low-water landscapes. The local climate—228 sunny days per year, an annual rainfall of 33.20 inches, and hardiness zone 8b—favors durable, low-maintenance materials. That mix of growth and climate creates steady demand for quality aggregates: gravel that compacts for stable surfaces, sheds water during seasonal rains, and complements desert palettes. Local sourcing matters because regional geology affects texture and color, and homeowners want consistent performance with minimal upkeep. Gravel is especially well-suited to North Sight’s environment because it promotes quick drainage during the region’s 33.20-inch annual rainfall while standing up to high sun exposure across 228 sunny days per year. Well-graded, angular gravel and mixed-size blends lock together for driveways and paths, reduce dust, and help prevent erosion in hardiness zone 8b landscapes. Hello Gravel makes it easy to get these materials by connecting you with local suppliers who understand nearby geology and by coordinating delivery on your schedule—standard delivery in 2+ business days or next-day delivery if ordered before noon CST—so you get the right gravel without the hassle of managing multiple vendors.Popular Projects in North Sight This Season

Crushed rock (3/4" minus) is a good all-purpose choice for driveways and high-traffic areas because it compacts and resists migration. Decomposed granite (DG), especially stabilized DG, is ideal for patios and pathways where a compact, smooth finish is desired. Pea gravel looks attractive for patios and play areas but can shift and track more in dry, windy conditions, so it is better for decorative uses than primary drive surfaces.
Use 1 cubic yard = about 1.3 to 1.5 tons depending on the material. Example estimates: a typical 2-car driveway (24 ft x 30 ft) at 3" depth needs about 8 to 10 cubic yards (roughly 10 to 14 tons). A 1,000 sq ft patio at 2" depth needs about 6 to 7 cubic yards (about 8 to 10 tons). A 100 ft long by 3 ft wide walkway at 2" depth needs about 2 cubic yards (about 3 tons). Remember Hello Gravel minimum orders start at 3 tons.
Gravel is permeable and can handle some runoff, but heavy monsoon flows can move loose material if the base and drainage are not prepared. Reduce erosion by sloping the subgrade away from structures, installing geotextile fabric, compacting a crushed-rock base, adding edge restraints, and creating swales or rock-lined channels to divert concentrated flows. For slopes or concentrated runoff areas, use larger rock at the toe, riprap, or stabilized DG to lock material in place.
Installation costs depend on site prep: basic spreading and compaction often runs $1.50 to $3.50 per sq ft, while full base excavation, geotextile, and grading can push costs higher. The typical process is: clear and grade the area, install fabric and edge restraints if needed, lay and compact a base layer of crushed rock, add finish gravel and compact. Hello Gravel can deliver material to contractors or DIY customers; optional tailgate spreading may be requested at checkout but is at the driver's discretion.
Materials with fines or a binding agent reduce dust and tracking; stabilized decomposed granite and polymer-coated gravels lock particles together and cut dust. Angular crushed rock with a small percentage of fines compacts well and tracks less than round pea gravel. Regular compaction, periodic watering when dusty, and applying a commercial dust palliative or surface stabilizer will further reduce dust in arid conditions.
A properly installed gravel driveway or path can last 10 to 20 years before major resurfacing, with regular maintenance. Expect to regrade and add a 1 to 2 inch top-up of material every 2 to 5 years, remove weeds annually, and recompact problem areas after monsoon season. Check drainage features after heavy rains and repair edges or ruts promptly to avoid bigger repairs.
Gravel typically has the lowest up-front cost and is easiest to install, but it needs more frequent maintenance (periodic regrading and topping). Asphalt and pavers cost more initially; asphalt lasts longer with periodic sealing and pavers offer the longest service life with individual unit repairs. For desert climates, gravel offers better permeability and easier drainage, while asphalt and pavers provide a cleaner, lower-tracking surface at higher cost.

Yes, many cities and HOAs have rules about front-yard landscaping, permeable surfaces, and allowed gravel colors or coverage. Before removing lawn, check North Sight city codes and your HOA guidelines for permitted materials, setback or curb requirements, and any permit obligations. If you need help, contact Hello Gravel or your local planning department for guidance on common local restrictions.
Gravel is typically delivered by dump truck (often tri-axle) and will be dumped in a pile at a location the driver can safely access; trucks require adequate turning radius and driveway strength. Tell us about any narrow gates, overhead wires, steep driveways, or weight limits in the Order Notes and choose a drop location in the checkout map. If you want spreading assistance, request tailgate spreading at checkout but remember it is performed at the driver's discretion and is not guaranteed.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
