Why Richmond Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Richmond has a population of 3,050 and is growing at 2.10% annually. With 228 sunny days per year, 34.32 inches of annual rainfall, and a USDA hardiness zone of 8b, local homeowners face a mix of sun, seasonal storms, and steady development pressure. That combination drives demand for durable, low-maintenance materials that manage water and stand up to frequent use. Stone is a top choice for Richmond projects because it provides reliable drainage, slows erosion on graded lots, and holds up under vehicle traffic for driveways and parking pads. Homeowners replacing lawns with low-water landscapes, installing patios, or stabilizing slopes commonly look for well-graded stone that reflects regional geology and performs in Richmond’s climate. Stone works particularly well in Richmond’s environment because it promotes quick runoff and resists compaction during wet periods, helping reduce standing water after heavy rains. For pathways, drainage trenches, retaining wall backfill, and permeable driveways, locally sourced crushed and washed stone balances permeability with stability. Hello Gravel connects Richmond homeowners with trusted local suppliers and tri-axle delivery fleets to simplify ordering, provide clear pricing, and schedule deliveries that fit your project timeline. Request tailgate spreading at checkout if you need help, and contact our team for material guidance before you order.Popular Projects in Richmond This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Richmond stone Delivery
Everything you need to know about stone delivery in Richmond.
For Richmond's freeze-thaw conditions, 3/4" crushed stone (angular, not rounded) is a common choice for driveway surfacing because it locks together and sheds snow. A compacted base of 3/4" minus or class 2 roadbase underneath a 3/4" top layer improves stability and reduces rutting. In icy areas consider a thin wearing layer of 3/8" or 1/2" stone to make snow removal easier while still allowing good compaction.
Use this quick formula: cubic yards = (square feet x depth in inches) / 324, and tons = cubic yards x 1.4 (typical crushed stone weight). Example: 100 sq ft at 2 inches = 0.62 cu yd ≈ 0.87 tons; at 4 inches = 1.23 cu yd ≈ 1.72 tons. Always round up and allow extra for compaction and slope (10-15% contingency).
Delivery costs vary by distance and truck size; for rural West Utah areas like Richmond you may see a flat truck fee or a per-ton delivery charge. Typical ranges are roughly $0 to $15 per ton or a flat fee of $50 to $150 depending on route and minimum order. Hello Gravel shows transparent delivery pricing at checkout and has a 3-ton minimum, so check your zip code for an exact quote.
Angular crushed stone performs well under snow plows because sharp edges interlock, reducing scatter, but smaller rounded gravels can be pushed or thrown by blades. Freeze-thaw can cause minor shifting or potholes; a well-compacted base and occasional top-ups help maintain surface integrity. Expect to do light regrading after harsh winters and inspect low spots for material loss.
Patios and walkways: 3/8" to 3/4" crushed stone with a compacted base of finer material for a stable walking surface. Drainage swales and French drains: use larger clean stone, typically 3/4" to 1-1/2" crushed rock or washed rock to keep flow paths open. Steeper or erosion-prone hillsides may require 2"+ riprap or larger rock in concentrated flow areas.
For drainage and erosion control, crushed stone or washed crushed rock (larger, angular pieces) is generally better than decomposed granite because it allows water to move through without clogging. Decomposed granite compacts into a harder surface and can limit permeability, so use it for paths or patios rather than drainage. For hillside erosion control, select appropriately sized rock (3/4" to 2") and consider geotextile fabric and vegetation for long-term stability.
Plan for light maintenance annually: remove vegetation, regrade ruts, and add 1/2" to 1" of fresh stone every 1 to 3 years depending on traffic and winter weather. After severe winters or heavy truck use check for potholes and low spots and fill them promptly to prevent deeper damage. Proper drainage and edge containment reduce maintenance frequency.
Installed costs vary with site prep, access, and material choice; expect material plus delivery commonly in the range of $30 to $60 per ton in West Utah, but prices vary. A professionally installed stone driveway including grading, base, compaction, and top dressing often ranges roughly $4 to $10 per square foot depending on scope and local labor. Get a local quote through Hello Gravel to see material-only pricing and then compare contractor bids for installation.
Hello Gravel connects Richmond customers with local suppliers and contracted haulers in the West Utah region, so the fastest way to find local stone is to enter your zip code on our site or call our team. Because Richmond is a small community, some materials may come from nearby towns or county suppliers, which Hello Gravel will show in your quote. If you need a named local landscaper or installer, ask our team for contractor referrals in Cache County.
Permits and HOA rules vary: some Richmond or Cache County projects that change impervious surface or alter drainage may need a permit, and Homeowner Associations can have rules about driveway materials, color, or edging. Before you order, check Richmond town hall and your HOA covenants, and collect any permit requirements to include in the project plan. If you need help, Hello Gravel's team can advise on typical local considerations but cannot obtain permits for you.
Order at least the 3-ton minimum and account for a 10-15% extra for compaction and grading; schedule delivery in spring or fall when ground is drier for easier spreading. Request tailgate spreading at checkout if you want the driver to attempt it, but remember it is at their discretion. Clear delivery access and mark utilities and delicate landscaping before the truck arrives to avoid delays and extra fees.
