Why Cumberland Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Cumberland has a city population of 5,020 and is part of a larger metro area with a population of 2.5+ million, making it a small but connected community where steady demand for yard work and home improvement projects is likely to grow. A recorded growth rate of 1.20% annually suggests steady, incremental construction and landscaping activity — not a boom, but consistent work that keeps contractor schedules and homeowner projects active year-round. With 228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 34.25 inches in hardiness zone 8b, materials need to stand up to both wet periods and long dry spells. That means homeowners benefit from correctly graded base materials for drainage, stable fill for foundations and driveways, and UV-resistant mulches or covers for prolonged sun exposure. In this environment, having a reliable supply of bulk materials — from sand and topsoil to aggregates and mulch — supports everything from erosion control and drainage upgrades to garden beds and hardscape projects.Popular Projects in Cumberland This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Cumberland Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Cumberland.
Choosing the right material depends on drainage needs, traffic load, desired appearance, and site slope. Consider how the material will perform through freeze-thaw cycles and snowmelt in West Wisconsin, and pick a product that compacts and drains well for the intended use. If you are unsure, use our material calculator or contact our team for recommendations based on local conditions and project size. Note that regional sourcing means gravel, sand, dirt, stone may vary in color and texture.
Cumberland’s freeze-thaw cycles and wet spring conditions can cause frost heave and washout if drainage is poor. Choose materials and installation methods that promote drainage and resist shifting in thaw cycles, and consider added base or geotextile when installing on slopes or in saturated areas. Seasonal timing and proper compaction are important to reduce long-term maintenance.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area and convert those dimensions to cubic yards, then to tons (our website has a calculator to help). As a rule of thumb, small garden paths and bed topping often need 1-3 tons, patio bases 3-6 tons, a single-car driveway 10-20 tons, and a two-car driveway 20-40 tons depending on depth. Contact our team with your dimensions for a quick estimate if you want a second opinion.
Standard delivery is typically available in 2+ business days, and next-day delivery may be offered for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can choose your preferred delivery date at checkout and orders have a minimum of 3 tons. Exact availability and any fees will be shown during checkout for your zip code.
Yes, delivery can be affected by tight driveways, low-hanging wires, soft or steep ground, narrow lanes, and culverts that can’t support heavy trucks. Provide delivery notes, photos, and a clear staging area when you order so drivers and haulers can plan safely. If access is restricted, we will contact you to discuss offloading options or alternate drop locations.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you should request this service at checkout so the driver is aware. Spreading depends on safety, truck access, and local site conditions, so it is not guaranteed and will be assessed on arrival.
We show transparent pricing during checkout for your zip code and many areas qualify for free delivery on qualifying orders. Additional fees may apply for next-day service, remote locations, or difficult access; the total cost is calculated before you pay. Remember the minimum order is 3 tons, and any delivery fees will be shown upfront.
Permit and erosion control requirements vary by municipality and project type, especially for work near public roads or waterways. Check with the City of Cumberland or your county zoning/land conservation office before starting work; for larger grading, driveways, or shoreline work, permits and erosion-control measures are commonly required. If you need documentation for a permit, contact our team and we can help identify typical material specs used locally.
Consider the project size, your experience with grading and compaction, and whether you have the necessary equipment. Small landscaping projects are often manageable for DIYers, while full driveway installs, large grading jobs, or work requiring permits are usually better handled by a contractor. If you are unsure, get a quote from a local pro or discuss scope and costs with our team to decide.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for deliveries and installation because ground conditions are more stable and compaction works better. Deliveries are possible year-round, but winter conditions can cause delays, reduced access, and different performance of some materials, so plan earlier and allow extra lead time for winter projects. Book seasonal projects in advance to secure preferred dates.
Natural materials vary by local geology, so color and texture may differ from photos due to regional sourcing. You can add color or texture preferences in your order notes, and if you have concerns after delivery, contact customer service promptly so we can review the order and help resolve issues. Photographs of the delivered material are helpful for faster assistance.
Contact our team as soon as possible; changes are easiest to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will make every reasonable effort to modify or cancel orders, but some changes may not be possible once a supplier or truck has been scheduled. Review the order confirmation for next steps and contact info.
