Why Okauchee Lake Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
With a city population of 2,188, Okauchee Lake sits within a broader metro area of 2.6+ million and is experiencing steady expansion. A regional growth rate of 2.50% annually means more remodeling, new landscaping, and small-scale construction — translating into rising, sustained demand for bulk materials. The local climate, with 228 sunny days and annual rainfall of 33.50 inches in hardiness zone 8b, favors outdoor living projects but also requires materials that balance drainage and durability. Homeowners here typically look for well-graded base materials for patios and driveways, erosion-resistant soils for shoreline stabilization, and UV-stable mulches and decorative aggregates for exposed beds. Because materials are sourced regionally, choosing the right blend of gravel, sand, topsoil, and mulch helps projects perform better year-round.Popular Projects in Okauchee Lake This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Okauchee Lake Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Okauchee Lake.
Homeowners and contractors in the Okauchee Lake area often pick materials based on purpose rather than brand. For structure and drainage they look for options that compact and shed water well; for aesthetics they choose materials that match local color and texture. Common choices include gravel, sand, dirt, stone for base layers, top layers, or planting beds — your selection should balance drainage, compaction, and appearance.
Pick materials that drain well and tolerate repeated freezing and thawing to reduce heaving and rutting. Properly sized base and top layers, good compaction, and a well-graded mix help performance in Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles. Consider regional sourcing when ordering — local materials reflect the geology and tend to perform better in the local climate.
A quick rule: 1 cubic yard covers about 100 sq ft at 3 inches depth, and 1 cubic yard is roughly 1.3 tons depending on material. Typical order ranges: small patio or garden bed 1-5 tons, single-car driveway 5-15 tons, larger driveways or yard fill 15-40+ tons. Use our material calculator or contact the team for a site-specific estimate.
Our minimum order is 3 tons, with standard delivery typically scheduled for 2+ business days from order. Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks; check your zip code for availability and any local delivery notes.
We can often deliver to lakeshore and tight-access sites, but access restrictions matter: truck turning radius, narrow driveways, overhead lines, and shoreline setbacks can limit where drivers can safely drop materials. Tell us about access at checkout and mark a safe drop zone; additional fees or smaller drop loads may apply. Drivers may also refuse unsafe drops for safety.
Some local ordinances and HOAs set restrictions on visible material types, colors, shoreline stabilization, or delivery hours and truck access. Before ordering, check with your HOA and local permitting office for any rules about shoreline work, material appearance, or dump truck access. If you have restrictions, add notes at checkout so suppliers can suggest compliant options.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for deliveries and installation because ground conditions are drier and crews can compact and grade material properly. Avoid deliveries right after snowmelt or during heavy rains to reduce tracking and rutting. We offer winter deliveries in some cases, but frozen-ground logistics and local rules can affect timing and cost.
Contractors focus on drainage, base thickness, compaction, edge restraint, and how materials settle over time in local soils and climate. They also ask about maintenance needs like topping up, weed control, and regrading after severe weather. Ask your contractor what profile and thickness they recommend for your project to match long-term performance goals.
Decide based on function: drainage and base stability, surface firmness, planting needs, and look. For example, materials that drain well are chosen for driveways and drainage solutions, while looser materials are better for planting beds. Consider longevity, maintenance, and how the material will interact with rainfall and local soil conditions.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes; modifications are easier before suppliers dispatch trucks and are handled on a best-effort basis. Natural materials vary by region, so color and texture may differ from photos — if a material looks different than expected, reach out to customer service and we'll work to resolve the issue. See our order and refund policies for details.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion and if conditions allow; request this service at checkout but note there are no guarantees. For consistent spreading, grading, or compaction, hiring a local landscaper or contractor is recommended. We coordinate delivery only; any extra onsite services depend on the driver and site safety.
Clear a safe drop zone, remove obstacles, keep pets and people clear, and mark any underground utilities or sensitive areas. Make sure there is enough room for a tri-axle dump truck to turn and park, and obtain any permits or HOA approval needed before delivery. Adding delivery notes at checkout helps drivers plan and reduces surprises on the day of delivery.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
